MI reduction in Alzheimer’s

Researchers followed more than 7000 patients on the Swedish Dementia Registry from May 2007 to December 2010.

Those taking the drugs had a 36% reduced risk of death from any cause, a 38% reduced risk of MI and a 26% reduced risk of death from cardiovascular causes such as stroke, compared to people not taking cholinesterase inhibitors.

Those on the highest recommended doses – donepezil 10mg, rivastigmine >6mg, and galantamine 24mg – had the lowest risk of MI or death.
