Migraineurs with aura are at higher risk of these stroke types

PEOPLE who experience migraine with aura may be at higher risk of specific stroke subtypes, researchers say after analysing data from a longitudinal, prospective study.

Migraineurs with aura are three times more likely to suffer a cardioembolic stroke compared with those who have migraine without aura, according to data from the US cohort.

The risk of thrombotic stroke is 2.2 times higher with migraine with aura, although no association has been found with lacunar stroke.
