Mild cognitive impairment link to COPD

Closer monitoring of patients with COPD could lead to early intervention to prevent the incidence or progression of cognitive impairment that may lead to dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, according to US researchers.

They looked at data on nearly 2000 patients aged 70—89 from the Mayo Clinic Study on Ageing to investigate the association between COPD and MCI in elderly patients. In total, 317 participants were diagnosed with MCI.
