Millions of adverse events linked to hospital care
Two-thirds of the events occurred in low and middle income countries, the researchers said.
They found seven main sources of adverse events in hospitals: catheter-related UTIs and catheter-related blood stream infection, adverse drug events, falls, nosocomial pneumonia, decubitus ulcers and venous thromboembolism.
All nations should emphasise safety improvement in health care systems, the researchers concluded.
“When patients are sick, they should not be further harmed by unsafe care,” they wrote.
