Misdiagnosis of epilepsy common: review

Epilepsy is commonly misdiagnosed and a lack of awareness of potential imitators is often to blame for the error, Australian researchers say.

Up to 71% of people told they have epilepsy may have been misdiagnosed, their literature review found.

Fewer than half of the studies under review used the gold standard diagnosis of history plus EEG.
