Mobile phone emissions affect brain metabolism

RADIOFREQUENCY radiation exposure from a 50-minute mobile phone call increases brain glucose metabolism in regions closest to the phone’s antenna, a study shows.

Among 47 healthy study participants, US researchers found brain glucose metabolism was significantly higher in the orbitofrontal cortex and temporal pole when mobile phones were turned on rather than turned off.

“The findings of increased metabolism in regions closest to the antenna during acute cell phone exposure suggest brain absorption of radio frequency-modulated electromagnetic fields may enhance the excitability of brain tissue,”
