Moderate fructose intake can be harmful

Nine normal-weight men between of 21 and 25 years  old consumed four different sweetened beverages for three weeks each. 

When the male volunteers consumed moderate and high fructose drinks, as well as high sucrose beverages, their LDL and total cholesterol were significantly higher than when they consumed high glucose beverages. Even relatively small amounts of daily fructose was associated with a significant decrease in hepatic insulin sensitivity.
