More assault victims after Cats victory

A study conducted by the School of Psychology at Deakin University examined records of nearly 17,000 patients attending the Geelong Hospital emergency department for reasons associated with alcohol, drugs or assault over a period of nearly five years up to February 2010.

It found that people were 39% more likely to attend the emergency department as a result of an assault on days when the Geelong Cats won. There were also substantial spikes in attendance when Geelong won the grand final in 2007 and 2009.
