More bad news for sleep apnoea sufferers

People with untreated sleep apnoea are at a substantially higher risk of developing gout, a large UK study has demonstrated.

The study followed 10,000 patients with newly diagnosed sleep apnoea as well as over 40,000 matched controls, identifying 270 cases of incident gout over a year.

Sleep apnoea patients were around 60% more likely to have developed gout over the study period.
