Motivational interviewing can help patients shed kilos

THE technique of motivational interviewing is yielding promising results in assisting people with obesity to achieve and maintain weight loss, a conference has heard.

A meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials supports the efficacy of motivational interviewing for obesity, with the best results seen in patients having the highest number of sessions, clinical psychologist Associate Professor Elizabeth Rieger says.
