MRSA in UK sausages prompts local alert

CONTAMINATION of UK supermarket meat by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus has sparked renewed calls by Australian experts for greater antimicrobial stewardship.

The bacteria, livestock-associated MRSA CC398, was found in two out of 103 packets of sausages and minced pork purchased from supermarkets in five regions, in the first UK study of retail meat.
