Musculoskeletal pain may be inherited

Chronic pain syndromes may be inherited, according to UK researchers who have discovered a genetic link between four conditions including musculoskeletal pain.

The research team from King’s College London examined data on chronic pain symptoms from a survey of 8000 pairs of twins.

They found musculoskeletal pain, IBS, pelvic pain and dry eye disease were more likely to be found in both twins in a monozygotic (identical) pair than in a dizygotic (non-identical) pair, suggesting the syndromes
