National pertussis cocooning vaccination approach lacking

Elizabeth Cockroft and Nathan Taylor told The Australian they believe their son Malakai contracted pertussis from his mother at six weeks – too early to be vaccinated himself and two months after Queensland Health scrapped its cocooning program on 30 June.

“I hate to think back on it now but I know I had whooping cough then. Whether he got it from me I don’t know but I had it and he ended up with it,” Ms Cockroft said.

“I had to look at his little face when we turned the machine off, hold him in my arms. It remains the worst moment of my life,” she told
