Sleep issues in children are under-reported. Often poor sleep in an infant or young child is not volunteered by parents because it is considered ‘normal’ or because parents feel a little embarrassed that their child is not the ‘perfect’ sleeper like all the other children from mothers’ group! Compounding this is the fact that many doctors may not routinely ask about sleep problems in young children. So the longer the poor sleep patterns persist, the more tired and irritated parents become.
