Neglect rife in history of people with bipolar

A UK-New Zealand study in 60 people with bipolar disorder and 55 controls showed those with the disorder had significantly higher scores on a childhood trauma questionnaire.

Scores in the subscales of emotional abuse, physical abuse, emotional neglect and physical neglect were all higher in the group with bipolar disorder.

In contrast, scores on the sexual abuse subscale did not differ between the bipolar disorder group and controls.

Only emotional neglect remained a significant predictor of bipolar disorder after controlling for other subscales and demographic factors.
