Neuroticism key in deaths due to suicide

UNSW researchers interviewed next-of-kin and healthcare professionals who had been in contact with 259 people who committed suicide and 181 sudden death controls.

When comparing suicide and control subjects with a psychiatric disorder, the suicide group still had higher scores on the neuroticism domain but the only other difference was higher scores on the openness domain.

Neuroticism was also the only domain that differed between groups when the analysis was restricted to mood disorders.
