New Aussie X-ray system for cystic fibrosis

An Australian-led research team has developed an X-ray imaging system that measures the impact of rehydrating agents on airways affected by cystic fibrosis.

It uses a technique called single-grid-based phase-contrast X-ray imaging (SGB-PCXI) to produce an image of the airway surface liquid (ASL).

Using SGB-PCXI, the researchers were able to measure the effects of a rehydrating agent consisting of an epithelial sodium channel blocker (HS-P308) combined with hypertonic saline (HS) in a mouse study.
