New cardiovascular strategy for Victoria

Cardiologists in Victoria will be able to offer patients better access to heart surgery, clot-busting drugs and cardiac rehabilitation, under a $21.9 million scheme to improve the state's cardiovascular health.

The five-year plan aims to improve access to cardiac services across the state and increase health literacy and public awareness of heart disease.

It will also target GPs to increase their usage of absolute cardiovascular risk assessments and "maximise opportunistic screening of high-risk individuals".
