New index quantifies disability in IBD

Around 20% of people with inflammatory bowel disease have a disability that renders them incapable of full-time work or study, Australian researchers find.

Their study measured work productivity and disability in over 160 IBD patients and controls using a new IBD disability index (IBD-DI), developed from the World Health Organisation’s classification of functioning, disability and health.

IBD-DI scores were an independent predictor of employment
