No benefit to removing primary after metastasis

Patients presenting with stage IV breast cancer will not have their survival chances improved by resection of the primary tumour, a clinical trial suggests.

Writing in the Lancet, the Indian authors show overall survival rates did not differ between 173 patients randomised to local treatment of the primary (resection and lymph node dissection followed by radiotherapy) and 177 who did not have the treatment.
