No need for bisphosphonate ‘holidays’

Doctors should rethink their assumption that osteoporotic patients on long-term bisphosphonates need to take a break from treatment, according to an expert panel.

The concept of bisphosphonate holidays has “gained considerable traction worldwide” due to anxiety about possible side effects including atypical femoral fracture (AFF) and osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), notes the panel led by Dr Stuart Silverman from the Cedar-Sinai Bone Health Center in California.
