No overall increased cancer risk with biologics: study

A large Swedish registry study suggests patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) taking biologics are not at increased cancer risk, with the possible exception of skin cancers.

The nationwide study compared development of malignancies among >15,000 patients on TNF inhibitors, 7400 on other biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) and >46,000 on conventional DMARDs, against general population-matched controls from 2006-2015.

None of the treatments increased the risk of solid or haematological malignancies
