Nurses crucial to boosting vaccine rates

PRACTICE nurses are immunisation leaders in most general practices, with their knowledge much sought-after, according to New Zealand researchers.

A study looking at 115 nurse immunisers employed in 124 practices in the Auckland and Midland regions found immunisations were delivered by 95% of practice nurses.
Most nurses (87%) sought further information on immunisation from fellow practice nurses, though 77% said they would go to GP colleagues.
