Offer CGM to all pregnant women with T1DM: researchers

Both pregnant women with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and their babies could benefit from using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) starting in the first trimester, an international study suggests.

The study of 215 pregnant women with T1DM in six countries found a small clinical benefit, particularly for HbA1c, for the mothers, but a more marked benefit in reduced neonatal complications.

In the randomised, controlled CONCEPTT trial, women were allocated in the first trimester to CGM plus normal capillary glucose monitoring or capillary glucose monitoring alone.
