Older Australians miss out on lipid-lowering drugs

A significant proportion of older high-risk Australians are missing out on lipid-lowering drugs, according to a study that highlights a gap between common practice and international prevention guidelines.

The study shows 15% of patients with any coronary heart disease (CHD) are missing out, and this falls to 6% for patients who have CHD, hypertension and diabetes.

However, twice as many subjects aged 60 or older are missing out compared with those younger than 60, which the authors
