Once lean populations now facing heart disease threat

Among East Asians (from China, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and Korea) a BMI ≥ 25 was linked to increased risk of death from overall CVD death, coronary heart disease and ischaemic stroke, particularly for individuals aged younger than 53. Increased risk was also present with BMI <15.

Among south Asians (from India and Bangladesh) the association was not as strong with increased risk cutting in at a BMI greater than 35.
