One in three ED presentations alcohol-related in 'hot spot' areas

The snapshot survey, conducted by researchers from the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM), showed that at 2 am last Saturday, one in seven cases seen in 92 EDs were a result of the harmful use of alcohol.

Principal investigator Dr Diana Egerton-Warburton, chair of the ACEM public health committee, said it was the first prospective Australian study and therefore accounted for all ED cases related to alcohol, including direct and indirect, acute and chronic.
