Origin of Sydney measles case unidentified
Sydney Local Health District has issued an alert for people who visited Leichhardt and went to MarketPlace, Norton Plaza or Leichhardt Library between 15 and 24 July after the person with the virus visited the venues on multiple occasions.
Director of Public Health Dr Leena Gupta said the person is now well but would not provide further details of the case.
The NSW Ministry of Health is urging children, and adults born since 1966, who do not have documented evidence of receiving two doses of MMR vaccine or evidence of previous measles infection to get vaccinated.
So far this year, a total of 267 measles cases have been reported countrywide. NSW has the highest number of reported cases to date at 59. In 2012, there were 172 measles notifications in NSW – the highest in a decade.
