Panel tackles coexisting spondyloarthritis and inflammatory bowel disease

A panel of rheumatologists and gastroenterologists have published what they believe is the first attempt to define therapeutic algorithms for the management of patients with coexisting spondyloarthritis (SpA) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

The occurrence of SpA in IBD patients has been estimated to be 17% to 39%, they write, confirming it as the most frequent extra-intestinal manifestation in patients with IBD.
