Paracetamol has no role in influenza treatment: NZ study

“We treat fever in influenza because there are drugs available to reduce temperature, but no one has looked at this in a systematic way. Could fever have a beneficial effect?” researcher Dr Kyle Perrin, a general and respiratory physician from the University of Otago in New Zealand, asked.

“Our strategy was to suppress temperature in one group to assess any benefits of fever in the other, but we were not able to do that using paracetamol, despite using the maximum dose every day for five days and ensuring compliance,” Dr Perrin said.
