Parkinson’s treatment linked to impulse control disorder

Experts are now urging doctors to use  dopamine receptor agonists with caution and to pay close attention to possible negative effects on impulse control – especially relating to gambling, hypersexuality and compulsive shopping. 

According to the study authors, biostatistician Thomas Moore and colleagues from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices in the US, these severe impulse control disorders have been reported in association with the use of dopamine receptor agonist drugs in case series and retrospective patient surveys since 2010.
