Peanut allergy controlled with combo therapy

Investigators from the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in Melbourne gave 60 children aged 1–10 years who were allergic to peanuts either a probiotic combined with a small dose of a peanut oral immunotherapy (OIT) in increasing amounts, or placebo, for 18 months. 

Lead researcher Associate Professor Mimi Tang said 82.1% of children who received the probiotic and OIT combination therapy (23 of 29 children) were able to tolerate peanuts without any allergic symptoms at the end of the trial
