Personal grooming a diabetes risk

Women in the highest quartile for monobenzyl phthalate and mono-isobutyl phthalate had almost double the risk of diabetes compared to women in the lowest quartile.

Certain phthalate meta­bolites were also positively associated with fasting glucose and insulin resistance, with higher than median levels of one phthalate resulting in about 60% increased risk of diabetes, and moderately high levels of two of the chemicals associated with a 70% increased risk.
