Pertussis upswing in NSW

NSW is experiencing an “upswing” in pertussis cases, with notifications from the first five months of the year more than triple the number reported during the same period last year, according to NSW Health data.

“We usually see, every two to three years, a bit of an upswing, and 2011–12 was the last upswing, so it’s now the three-year mark,” says Dr Nicholas Wood, senior researcher at the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance.
