Pharmacists ‘misleading’ on vaccination, says nurse clinic

In an ad taken out in Queensland newspaper The Sunday Mail, the nurse-led group Revive Clinic warns readers that pharmacists are not medically trained to administer vaccinations.

The ad states that pharmacists are “not legally approved to vaccinate anywhere in Australia”, and urges those seeking vaccination to “know who is vaccinating you”. It also lists 57 locations at which it is understood the trial will take place.

“Highly trained nurse practitioners provided flu vaccinations at these exact locations in previous years,” the ad states.

The Queensland Pharmacist Immunisation Pilot (QPIP) – announced earlier this year by the state branches of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) and the Pharmacy Guild of Australia – is due to begin next month and will target patients not covered by the National Immunisation Program.
