Phone coaching benefits patients with chronic illness

Among 30 studies, including two from Australia, the researchers found evidence that vulnerable patients in particular, such as Indigenous people – with diseases such as COPD, diabetes, congestive heart failure or hypertension – may benefit from weekly or monthly phone or Skype calls.

The study authors, from the UNSW Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity, said with multi-morbidity on the rise, more research was needed on how to embed coaching within existing services.
