‘The pills are making me fat, Doctor!’
An expert panel commissioned by the US Endocrine Society conducted a systematic review examining weight losses and gains associated with 54 different medications.
The analysis drew on data from 257 randomised trials involving nearly 85,000 adult patients, of whom 46% were men.
Weight gain was linked to 14 different drugs and weight loss associated with another 10. Many of the remaining drugs were deemed ‘weight neutral’, as observed weight change was not significant or evidence was poor.
