Pneumonia treatment sparks concern
Australian doctors are failing to follow best practice guidelines for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), researchers say.
Use of a pneumonia severity score in Australian hospitals is “extraordinarily low” at 5%, the researchers from Deakin University write in the journal Clinical Medicine Insights: Circulatory, Respiratory and Pulmonary Medicine.
As an example, they note that CORB (Confusion, Oxygen Saturation, Respiratory Rate, Blood Pressure) was not recorded for over 250 patients admitted with CAP in 2012 at Barwon Health in Geelong.
