Polypill powerful preventer of CVD

Researchers claim that deaths from myocardial infarction and stroke could be reduced by two-thirds with use of a polypill.

However it may be several years before polypill versions being trialled in Australia reach the market.

The University of London’s randomised placebo-controlled, cross-over trial studied 86 patients and found that their tri-layered tablet, containing amlodipine, losartan, hydrochlorothiazide and simvastatin resulted in a 12% reduction in blood pressure and a 39% reduction in LDL cholesterol.
