Potent statins up risk of diabetes

The study of nearly 500,000 people aged 66 or older taking statins, who had no history of diabetes, showed that those treated with atorvastatin had a 22% increased risk of new onset diabetes – compared with pravastatin – used as a comparator because of its favourable effects on incident diabetes in clinical trials.
