Predicting prognosis proves difficult

Forty GPs recruited 184 patients who had recently injured their knees. These patients completed a questionnaire about their symptoms and 134 agreed to have MRI.

Most of the participants were involved in sport and 46% had sports-related injuries. The injury was work-related in 15% of cases.

In 61% of the patients who had MRI there was damage to a knee ligament or meniscus. A combination of lesions was found in 36%.
