Pregnancy loss a risk factor for cardiovascular disease

Women with a history of miscarriage or stillbirth may be at increased risk of cardiovascular disease, a US study shows.

The researchers looked at over 70,000 postmenopausal women and found metabolic, hormonal and haemostatic pathway alterations associated with pregnancy loss may lead to coronary heart disease (CHD).

The association appears to be independent of hypertension, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio and white blood cell count, the authors say in the paper published in the Annals of Family Medicine.
