Among >37,000 children of 28,500 mothers, researchers found increased rates of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality among the adult offspring of both overweight and obese women compared to women of normal weight.

Pregnant overweight women may be oversupplying the developing fetus with nutrients, the researchers said.
Other mechanisms could include lifelong alterations of key hormonal axes which predispose the fetus to cardiovascular risk factors.
