Probiotics reduce blood pressure: study

Regular consumption of probiotic-rich food may provide modest improvements for people with elevated blood pressure, according to an Australian review of nine studies.

The review shows the benefit is most pronounced among people who have consumed probiotics for more than eight weeks.

Probiotics should contain more than one type of bacterium and a daily bacteria volume of 109 colony-forming units (CFU) to have an effect, say the authors.
