Promising patch for foot ulcers

Doctors have developed a drug delivered through a skin patch that promotes healing and prevents recurrence of foot wounds in people with diabetes.

The deferoxamine-based drug could become a first-line treatment, according to their study presentation at the American College of Surgeons Annual Clinical Congress.

Researcher Dr Geoffrey Gurtner, Professor of Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine, says people with diabetic foot ulcers generally do badly, even after an amputation.
