Prostate MRIs on the rise

Ordering an MRI before initial biopsy to detect prostate cancer could become standard practice within the decade, says a Melbourne urologist.

A/Prof Jeremy Grummet of Alfred Health says a recent survey of Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand members suggests many urologists are ordering MRIs, even though the procedure is yet to be reimbursed by the MBS and costs around $400-$450.
