Psoriatic arthritis linked to higher type 2 diabetes incidence

Inflammation may link the two conditions

Having psoriatic arthritis puts patients at higher risk of type 2 diabetes than having psoriasis alone, a study suggests.

People with incident psoriatic arthritis had a 40% higher risk of going on to develop type 2 diabetes than the general population and a 53% higher risk than those with psoriasis, the UK observational study showed.

Nearly 6800 people with incident psoriatic arthritis, from a large primary care database covering the years between 1998 and 2014, were followed for a mean 5.5 years, to see whether they developed type 2 diabetes or one of three
