Psychiatric disorders linked to diabetes

The cross-sectional survey of 52,000 people in 19 countries showed that of 16 DSM-IV disorders, depression was associated with a 30% increased risk and intermittent explosive disorder with a 60% increased risk of developing diabetes after adjusting for comorbidity.

Binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa were both associated with a more than twofold increased risk of subsequent diabetes.
