RA drugs affect diabetes risk

Some rheumatoid arthritis treatments may significantly lower the odds of diabetes, while others raise them, US researchers have found.

Treatment with the biologic abatacept almost halves the risk of type 2 diabetes compared with methotrexate alone, while hydroxychloroquine reduces the odds by a third, the study of nearly 14,000 patients found.

On the other hand, statins and glucocorticoids may increase the odds by up to 55%.
