RA treatment may work in knee OA

Methotrexate may be an effective treatment for improving pain and function in knee osteoarthritis, say Egyptian researchers.

The finding comes from a double-blind study which randomised 144 patients to placebo or up to 25mg of methotrexate for six months.

The proportion of patients who experienced a clinically meaningful reduction in pain was substantially higher in the methotrexate arm (53% vs 24%).
